Scales and Arpeggios

Here is an example of me teaching another student how to play scales and arpeggios. I cannot show you his playing because I forgot to remove his name when I made the recording.

The technique required for scales and arpeggios, (i.e. flexible thumbs, loose wrists, loose arms, playing legato), must be practiced so that the same technique can be applied to one’s repertoire. How can one play Beethoven Sonatas without being able to play a beautiful scale?

It will be interesting for the viewer to note that when I play slowly to demonstrate, I am exaggerating. When I play up to tempo, my wrist and arm are already flexible and loose and it will look like I’m hardly moving.
